In-Service Day for Primary Schools

On Wednesday 15th October over 60 representatives from Primary Schools throughout the Derry Diocese gathered at the Everglades Hotel, Derry for In-Service training, facilitated by the Catechetical Centre and supported by the Western Education and Library Board.

The day provided an excellent opportunity for the sharing of the good practice which exists in our primary schools in the developing of Religious Education. There were Presentations by teachers on;
• Developing the Sacramental Life of the whole School
• Celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation
• Monitoring and Evaluating the teaching of Religious Education
• Innovative ways to teach Bible Stories.

There was a very lively review of the current Religious Education Programme used in schools and on ways in which support can be given to new teachers as they begin their role in the handing of faith to children.

This Annual In-Service day is also an opportunity for the Diocese to acknowledge the great commitment of schools in the work of faith development.
