Report from Croagh Padraig 2009

My name is Shauna Moohan and I am doing The Pope John Paul II Award this year.  I attend St Patrick's College in Maghera and I am going for the gold award.  I decided to take part in the Derry Diocesan trip to Croagh Padraig on Saturday 6th July as part of my award. The hike up Croagh Padraig was the hardest walk I have ever done in my life!! It is definitely a pilgrimage! I almost gave up three times before I forced myself to push on. I thought I was never going to make it to the top. We had great craic as a group trying to get up the mountain but when we got to the summit we dropped at the nearest spot and lay down to rest.  Thankfully it was a brilliant day and the view from the top of the mountain was really beautiful. It was well worth all the hard work and pain. The Mass we had inside the little chapel on the top with Fr Farren was really lovely. It was a very good day's craic watching everyone struggle to get to the top. It was definitely worth all the effort. On the way back down it felt so long, we had no idea we had walked so much.  We had a lovely dinner that evening in the hotel in Westport before we headed for home. Overall it was a great day and I would definitely do this trip again.
